Registration for the International Arctic Youth Project Laboratory of BRICS will last until September 29
Participants will spend five days solving real cases on Arctic development – from Northern Sea Route logistics to cross-border payments
Registration has been announced for the International Arctic Youth Project Laboratory of BRICS «BRICS Project Lab Arctic 3.0» – an international forum that will bring together students, graduate students, and young scientists from Russia and BRICS countries to develop innovative projects aimed at the sustainable development of the Arctic region.
The forum events will be held from October 26 to 30, 2026, in Moscow at the venues of the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA) and the Margarita Rudomino Library of Foreign Literature. Specialists in the fields of energy, logistics, engineering, international relations, and regional studies are invited to participate.
In addition to the PORA Expert Center, the laboratory’s partners in 2026 include: PJSC Gazprom, FESCO Transportation Group, FSUE State Trust Arktikugol, V-ALTER Payment Center LLC, and Rossotrudnichestvo. Participants will be offered the following cases:
- Gazprom, Case 1. Development of a comprehensive field development plan that will minimize the negative impact on the Arctic environment and preserve the traditional nature management of Indigenous Peoples of the North, as well as analysis of the technical, economic, environmental, social, and legal characteristics of the region and assessment of the risks of implementing such projects in the Russian Arctic Zone.
- Gazprom, Case 2. Development of a proposal for projects accompanying the gas industry that the company could use. In addition, participants need to analyze various characteristics of the Russian Arctic Zone, as well as the Russian and foreign experience of BRICS countries in implementing these projects.
- Gazprom, Case 3. Preparation of scenarios for interaction with BRICS countries on the development and use of gas fields in the Russian Arctic Zone. As part of comprehensive work, it is necessary to analyze the main trends of the global gas market, the geopolitical contour, and study potential partners.
- FESCO. Development of a cost-effective and operationally feasible business model for regular Northern Sea Route voyages that ensures delivery costs no higher than those of the classic route through the Suez Canal, in the absence of owned ice-class vessels and without public advertising of the service.
- Arktikugol. Analysis of Norwegian legislation on the restoration of roads between Russian settlements and study of the possibilities for their restoration in accordance with the 1920 Svalbard Treaty, the Mining Charter, and Norwegian environmental legislation.
- V-ALTER. Analysis of the transformation of cross-border payments under sanctions pressure.
- PORA. Assessment of current measures to attract foreign capital for the development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, as well as assessment of the financial needs of Arctic Zone development projects after the «exit» of Western investors. Participants will need to develop innovative measures to attract international capital.
- PORA. Develop a draft interstate BRICS standard for scientific and technical cooperation, applicable to existing or potential cooperation projects in the Russian Arctic zone – covering everything from terminology and procedures to specific requirements, similar in approach to GOST, ISO, and IEC standards.

BRICS Project Lab Arctic 2.0: Business Cases for Participants
The students will tackle four research tasks grounded in real-world data as part of BRICS Project Lab Arctic 2.0, an international youth project scheduled in Moscow from 24 to 27 February 2025. The tasks, organized across different thematic tracks, were proposed by the competition’s corporate partners, including Gazprom Neft, Nornickel, Arktikugol, and PORA.
